CF Banner

One of the fruits of the spirit is kindness. What is Kindness? How can we use it? How is it helpful? I think that all of us have done a kind act? Am I correct? Whether it was helping mom with the dishes, (because I know we all hate that!) or helping someone up who fell. Being kind is hard to do, because it starts with sacrifices. Just a few weeks ago I was in Dallas with my cousins Melissa (5) and Makayla (2) and my aunt and uncle. Melissa and Makayla were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when they were born. Your probably wondering what Cystic Fibrosis is so let me tell you what I know. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. Caused by a defective gene and its protein product the body produces unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

Their daily needs can be very overwhelming for the parents, 18 enzymes a day! not including various vitamins and other medications. Add to that three relentless 20 minute breathing treatments that are neither uplifting for parent or child. Can you imagine yourself in that situation? CF does not yet have a cure, but they strive faithfully to find one. Melissa’s school (kinder-6th grade) raised money in support of Great Strides CF walk. In just five short days the whole school raised just over $1,500 dollars with the kindergarten class leading the pack! What a true gift.  All those kids sacrificed something that week... whether it was a new toy or a new pair of shoes. They put all that behind them and put it to a cause where it could potentially save lives. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation provides an opportunity for the community to be involved with their annual great strides walk. This is where CF patients along with friends and family walk roughly 3 miles to raise money to cure Cystic Fibrosis. I participated in the walk about a week and half go. It was an amazing experience that truly inspired me to show love and kindness in my daily walk.  How will you show your love, compassion, kindness? What kind act will you do this week? Will it show how much you appreciate that person? Will you do the right thing even if it means standing alone. Be an ambassador for Christ.  Show kindness towards people and continue to pray for Melissa and Makayla as they continue to work through the day to day of their illness. And for the parents that would keep their faith in God and never walk astray.

Purchase Ruth and equip your child to understand God's promises.

Lights! Camera! Action! That is me, Sydney Liberto, at “Read All About It” Bookstore in Boerne. According to my family I did wonderful. I did not know that I was public speaking until 2 days ago! On the day of my book reading, I was so nervous I couldn’t even eat my Tortilla soup and I love Tortilla soup. Of course when I got there I was no longer nervous. I was surrounded by encouragement from family and friends. I learned on this amazing day that I should never be afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone.
